Return On Investment

I’m Miriam Neff, and I’m Valerie Neff Hogan, with Wise Women Managing Money.

M A common acronym in the financial world is ROI, Return On Investment.  Consider applying this to the cost of college degrees.  Historically a college degree resulted in higher lifetime earnings.  However, inflation of college costs, and degrees result in low paying jobs, or no job. We must consider ROI.

V You can research starting salaries of those who major in Sociology, art, or psychology.  Compare those to engineering, computer science, and mathematics.  We’re not saying which to pick.  We’re just saying do the math.  Reality might be a low ROI.

Thankfully there are many options.  Shorter certifications for specific skills.  Less reliance on general education classes, and local junior college.

M We say investigate, talk to people in your field of interest. And pray for God’s guidance regarding this investment.
