Fear Of Investing 2

I’m Miriam Neff, and I’m Valerie Neff Hogan, with Wise Women Managing Money.

M Why talk about investing when there are so many topics, some that seem more vital at the moment?  Because I see people make costly mistakes that seem safe at the time, but cost them dearly over time.

Consider a widow who shuddered at the volatility of 2008, 2009, and ask her financial planner to take all money out of the markets.  Her portfolio has shrunk to inadequate income today.

V Had she stayed in the market, created balanced positions, her portfolio would not only have fully recovered, it would be larger than before. It’s better to make calm decisions during times of turmoil, than never recover from a hasty choice.

M Learn, seek wise council, and don’t freak out at volatility.
