Big income? Financial windfall? Life insurance. Inherited money. Someone has a plan for your money! For their profit, not yours.

I. Marks of financial fraud
A. Emotional appeal. You need this, you deserve this.
B. Pressure to quickly sign or agree.
C. Affinity fraud. I’m in the same church, golf group, even a relative!
D. Return on investment is too good to be true!
E. Predators of ‘vintage’ people and those with dementia.

II. Your protections
A. Hit the pause button.
B. Investigate, investigate, investigate.
C. Research and vet ALL individuals.
D. Common sense: take time to noodle and ponder.
E. Some government regulations.
F. Add a trusted name to your portfolio and accounts.
